Slab Supply

Large-format porcelain slabs pressed in Spain and Italy: marble looks, concretes, travertine faces and oxidised metals in 12 and 20 mm, up to 1600×3200 mm.

Overview

Slab Supply in Metro Vancouver.

We hold large-format porcelain slabs in stock on Welch Street, pressed in Spain and Italy. Marble looks, concretes, travertine faces, onyxes, oxidised metals and solid colours, in 12 and 20 mm, up to 1600×3200 mm. Every one of them can be stood upright under proper light, so you judge the veining at full size instead of guessing from a sample chip.

Why buy the slab here

Choosing a surface should not be a leap of faith.

See it at full size

A 100 mm sample tells you the colour and nothing about the veining. A full slab standing under daylight-balanced light tells you what the room will actually look like.

It's here, not on a container

Stock sits in North Vancouver. That means the slab you chose on Tuesday can be on your fabricator's saw the following week, rather than after a six-week sailing.

Faces checked before you buy

Porcelain veining is printed across a limited set of repeating faces. We show you which faces a collection runs, so a large kitchen doesn't end up with the same pattern twice on adjacent pieces.

Reserved until your shop is ready

Once you choose, we tag and hold your slabs, so the exact pieces you picked are the ones delivered to your fabricator, not the next ones off the rack.

How buying works

From first visit to slabs on the truck.

  1. 01

    Tell us the space

Room, rough dimensions and the look you're chasing. A photo of the cabinets or a designer's drawing is plenty to start from, and it lets us have the right material out before you arrive.

  2. 02

    Book a viewing

Welch Street is by appointment, which is deliberate. It means someone is with you and three or four realistic candidates are standing up, rather than you wandering a warehouse alone.

  3. 03

    Check the faces

For anything larger than a single run we lay out which slab faces go where, so your fabricator can plan the cuts around a layout rather than improvising at the saw.

  4. 04

    Tag, reserve, deliver

Your slabs are marked and set aside, then crated and delivered to whichever shop is cutting for you, on a date we agree with them directly.

Who this is for

Slab supply suits you if…

  • You're renovating a kitchen or bathroom and want to see the actual material before committing.
  • You're an interior designer specifying porcelain and need to know exactly which faces a collection runs.
  • Your fabricator has asked you to choose and supply your own slab.
  • You're replacing a surface that etched, stained or scorched, and want one that won't.

From the showroom

What buyers say about choosing here.

“Booked a viewing not really knowing what to expect and it was worth the drive. Full slabs standing up under decent light, so you can actually see the veining before you commit to it. Nobody rushed us.”
Tomás LindqvistKitchen project, Burnaby
“We wanted one slab to run up the backsplash and around the island, and Stone Trail found a book-matched pair that made it possible. They tagged both and held them until our shop was ready for them.”
Marisol VegaKitchen renovation, North Vancouver
“Needed 20 mm for a roof deck and they were straight with me about which collections are actually rated for it rather than just selling me the one I liked. It went down on pedestals, and it matches the tile running through the doors.”

Slab supply FAQ

Questions about buying the slab.

Do you cut and install the slabs as well?

No. We're a supplier only. We sell you the slab and deliver it to whichever fabrication shop is cutting and fitting for you. If you don't have one yet, tell us the job and we'll point you at shops that cut porcelain regularly.

What sizes do the slabs come in?

The largest format we carry is 1600×3200 mm, a little over 5×10 feet; some Italian lines run 1620×3240. Collections also come in 1500×3200, 1200×3000 and 1600×1600. The big format is what lets a fabricator do an island with no join at all, or a full-height shower wall in one piece.

How many slabs will my kitchen need?

A typical galley kitchen with an island is usually two 1600×3200 slabs. Add a full-height backsplash or a waterfall end and it's often three. Bring your dimensions and we'll work it out with you before you buy rather than after.

What finishes are available?

It depends on the mill. Across the lines we stock you'll find polished, honed, natural matt, silk, river-washed, bush-hammered and soft-structured. The same face in polished and in matt can read as two completely different materials, which is exactly why it's worth seeing them side by side.

Is porcelain more expensive than quartz?

Slab for slab, mid-range porcelain and mid-range quartz land close together. The difference shows up in fabrication, because porcelain edges are built up rather than simply cut. That's your fabricator's line on the quote, not ours.

Can I take a sample home?

Yes, and you should. Colours shift a lot under different lighting. We'll cut you a decent-sized offcut rather than a chip, because a small piece genuinely misleads you on veined material.
